They continue to be linked with a plethora of strikers after Sesko decided to move to Manchester United. It appears the next player through the St James’ Park door will be Thiaw. The German international will join for £34.5 million, with add-ons included. AC Milan have verbally accepted this proposal, with Thiaw one step closer to getting the move he wanted.

Malick Thiaw

With Newcastle back in the Champions League, it’s vital the club have strength in depth in order to challenge in all competitions. Thiaw will add a physical presence to their defence. He reads the game well and looks comfortable on the ball.

The 24-year-old is known to step out of defence, intercept passes and help launch counterattacks. This ability will help Newcastle get the ball to the likes of Anthony Gordon and Anthony Elanga, who can cause damage to the opposition. His physical presence ensures he is difficult to beat in one-on-one situations. His reading of the game and long strides ensure he is rarely caught out of position for long.

Whether Thiaw is a regular at St James’ Park remains to be seen, but with the medical imminent, Newcastle are one step closer to adding to their squad for the coming season.
