West Ham vs Leeds confirmed lineups

West Ham United Agree Deal for ‘Special’ Attacker

West Ham United endured a challenging 2024/25 season, which saw them finish 14th, just one point ahead of Manchester United. It’s been a quiet summer transfer window for the Hammers so far, but according to David Ornstein from The Athletic, West Ham have agreed a deal to sign free agent striker Callum Wilson, following his departure from Newcastle.

West Ham United Agree Deal for Striker Signing

Callum Wilson Set to Join After Quiet Summer at West Ham

Following a difficult 2024/25 season, Graham Potter will be eager to improve his squad ahead of the new season. So far this summer, West Ham have signed Jean-Clair Todibo, El Hadji Malick Diouf, and Kyle Walker-Peters.

They struggled in defence and attack last season, making the impending signing of Wilson a key addition. It is said to be a 1-year deal.

Wilson has completed his medical ahead of his move to West Ham. He has struggled over the years with injuries, but when fit, Wilson is a problem for opposition defences. He has two goals in nine caps for England and, even at 33, could be a great buy for Potter.

Newcastle did try to reach a deal with Wilson on a slightly more incentive-based salary, but an agreement could not be reached, leading to him becoming a free agent on June 30.

Qualities of Callum Wilson

Wilson, previously described as “special” by Eddie Howe, scored 49 goals across 130 appearances for Newcastle. His hold-up play is exceptional, as is his ability to roll his marker. He has always been adept at running in behind, but with these injury problems, it remains to be seen how often he will do that going forward.

Wilson is calm in front of goal, and given chances, he will score goals. His movement off the ball is also impressive, and this enables him to find many goal-scoring opportunities.
