Jack Currie
Arguably the highest-profile player, Jack Currie, had an exceptional loan spell with Leyton Orient in League One.
The summer signing from AFC Wimbledon was expected to be involved at Oxford but Joe Bennett and Greg Leigh kept the youngster at bay, so he made a season-long switch to the third tier.
Currie turned out 45 times for the O’s and featured in all three playoff games, but lost in the final at Wembley against Charlton.
Many Orient fans have been highly complimentary of the defender all season so it will be interesting to see what impact he can make for the U’s next season.
James Golding
Another young defender to spend time away was James Golding. The 20-year-old spent time at Maidenhead and Southend.
The centre-back played eight times for the Magpies, scoring twice in the National League, before being sent on loan to Southend, where he added a further three goals from 14 appearances.
Unfortunately, injury curtailed his season early and he didn’t play a part as the Shrimpers prepare for a National League playoff final against Oldham.
Stephan Negru
The final defender, Stephan Negru joined up with former U’s boss Karl Robinson in League Two.
The 22-year-old turned out 32 times for Salford but with Oxford struggling with injuries, he was recalled. However, he returned to Robinson’s side but struggled with injuries himself towards the end of the season.
Louie Sibley
Another surprise departure was midfielder, Louie Sibley. Like Currie, Sibley joined the U’s in the summer but unlike Currie, played a part for the first half of the season.
The 23-year-old turned out 17 times and scored in a 1-1 draw at Portsmouth, but appeared out of favour under Gary Rowett. As a result, he was sent on loan to Rotherham in January.
During his time with the Millers in League One, Sibley scored twice from 22 appearances.
Owen Dale
A Wembley winner last summer, Owen Dale featured 12 times for Oxford this season but minutes were limited. As a result, he joined Wigan on loan in League One.
The winger turned out 18 times for the Latics, scoring once in a win over Huddersfield, but managed plenty more minutes which was important.
Will Goodwin
Another player to join Wigan was striker, Will Goodwin, but his impact wasn’t quite as effective.
He managed just three appearances for Oxford, with a total of just 20 minutes, before joining the Latics but after six appearances, injury ended his season.
The club will have a decision to make in the summer despite only joining for a significant fee last January, but they may have to cut their losses with this transfer.
Gatlin O’Donkor
A more fruitful spell in front of goal for Oxford’s young striker but it ended in relegation while on loan at Bristol Rovers.
Gatlin O’Donkor joined the League One side in the summer and hit four goals from 31 appearances for the Gas.
Upon his return to Oxford, the 20-year-old has seen a one-year option taken up while also being offered a new deal by the club.
