Brighton Predicted Lineup Vs Newcastle United for May 4

Brighton have four games left of this Premier League season. The first of these is a home tie against Newcastle United. The Seagulls currently sit in ninth, level with Fulham in eighth and just ahead of Bournemouth and Brentford in the race for European football. Their 3-2 victory over West Ham United last week put them back on track after six games without a win in all competitions. Here is our Brighton predicted lineup as they take on Eddie Howe’s side at the Amex.

Brighton Predicted Lineup vs Newcastle United for Premier League Clash

How Brighton Have Lined Up Recently

Bart Verbruggen carries on his run in goal. Midfielder Mats Wieffer started his second game in a row at right back. After Jan Paul van Hecke’s injury in the 4-2 defeat to Brentford, Carlos Baleba slotted alongside Lewis Dunk as centre-back. Pervis Estupinan started at left back.

Yasin Ayari and Jack Hinshelwood started in the double pivot together. The young Englishman is back in his natural position after playing a lot of football at right back. Danish midfielder Matt O’Riley played in front of them in an advanced role.

Brighton’s two main wingers Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh both started on the bench. They both came on for Simon Adingra and Solly March, who started his first game for Brighton since 2023. Danny Welbeck started up front for the Seagulls.

Brighton Recent Form & Tactics

It was back to winning ways against West Ham for Fabian Hurzeler’s side. They took the lead through Ayari who netted his first goal for Brighton. Mohammed Kudus and Tomas Soucek’s goals put the London club ahead with seven minutes left. Substitute Mitoma levelled in the 89th minute before Baleba scored a screamer to put more misery on former manager Graham Potter.

Hurzeler stuck with a 4-2-3-1 formation. He kept with Wieffer at right back with Hinshelwood in midfield, who filled in for Baleba who again impressed at centre back.

There are more worries defensively for Brighton, with them having conceded two or more goals in each of their last six league games. They have failed to keep a clean sheet since the end of February. Their high press tactics throughout the season may have added to the goal tally, with players fatigued and teams able to slice through them. Against West Ham, they got their scoring boots back with Mitoma showing how important to the team he is.

Brighton Injuries and Absentees to Consider

Hurzeler revealed that van Hecke is raring to go again. The German said:He [Van Hecke] trained yesterday and after the training, he immediately came to me and said he wants to play.”

Joel Veltman and Igor Julio have also recovered from hamstring injuries, and are in contention to feature in the matchday squad. Tariq Lamptey also returned to the squad against Brentford, a huge boost to Brighton’s defensive options.

James Milner, Ferdi Kadioglu and Georginio Rutter remain sidelined. Joao Pedro is suspended after being shown red two weeks ago against Brentford.
