Aston Villa saw their FA Cup dreams crushed with their disappointing recent 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the semifinal. As they push for qualification for the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League, the club have gotten bad news regarding forward Marcus Rashford.

What Happened to Rashford?
The Athletic’s David Ornstein has reported that Rashford is now expected to miss the remainder of the 2024/25 season after having sustained a hamstring injury. The English forward was not even in Unai Emery’s squad for the FA Cup semifinal, and it appears that was because of his new injury blow.

The journalist claims that Aston Villa will be getting their forward to undergo more tests to determine the severity of the blow, but he is not expected to have to undergo surgery. It’s also added that with the Villans having just four more Premier League matches remaining in the ongoing campaign, it is “highly likely his campaign is over”.
It’s also added that while it’s not totally ruled out for Rashford to regain fitness for Aston Villa’s upcoming game against Tottenham Hotspur (on May 18), that game could potentially be moved if the Lilywhites reach the UEFA Europa League final (on May 21). Ornstein adds that the 27-year-old forward is currently focusing on regaining fitness in time for England’s matches in June (2025) and the start of pre-season before the 2025/26 season.
What Lies in the Future for Rashford?
If he’s unable to return in time for the final games of the season, Rashford’s stint at Villa Park might’ve come to an end. He joined on loan from Manchester United in the January transfer window, and there is a £40 million optional buy clause inserted into it, but the Villans have not shown any indication of whether they want to trigger that to sign him permanently.

Rashford was able to make 17 appearances for Aston Villa since joining them on loan, in which he scored four goals and provided three assists in all competitions. He is scheduled to return to Old Trafford after the 2024/25 season ends, but there remains some uncertainty over where exactly he’ll be playing next season after this new blow.
