Aston Villa sustained a gutting end to their 2024/25 UEFA Champions League campaign as they lost the quarterfinal to Paris Saint-Germain by a 5-4 margin on aggregate, despite winning the second leg by a 3-2 margin. The Villans, however, are continuing planning for the next season and have their eyes on Norwegian midfielder Sverre Nypan.

How Close Are Aston Villa to Sealing Nypan Transfer?
Sky Sports have reported that Unai Emery’s side are now progressing in talks to sign the 18-year-old in the summer transfer window. It’s also added that Aston Villa are hoping to make Nypan their first signing of the 2025 summer window after being impressed by his development in Norway.

It’s also stated that a deal has not been closed yet between the Premier League side and Rosenborg, but “discussions remain ongoing”. The midfielder was actually reported to be a target for Arsenal in the 2025 January transfer window and was valued at around £10 million plus add-ons. However, the Gunners were unable to get a deal done, and Emery’s side are now looking to take advantage of that by getting a deal agreed well in advance before the summer window opens.
Who Is Nypan?
Nypan has been playing for Rosenborg’s senior team since 2022, and became their youngest-ever player when he debuted at the age of 15 years and 322 days for the club. The teenager can play in any midfield role, but is at his best in that number eight role for his club. He has even made a few appearances as a centre-forward for the Norwegian side.

The Norwegian midfielder has already made 62 appearances for Rosenborg so far, getting 25 goal contributions (14 goals, 11 assists) in that period as well. The 18-year-old has even been hailed as a “generational talent” because of his quality and performances for his club at such a young age. Aston Villa could be improving their midfield strength for years to come by signing someone like Nypan and can also send a statement of intent if able to rope him in ahead of Premier League rivals like Arsenal.
