Newcastle Predicted Lineup vs Liverpool for February 26

These two meet at Wembley in a few weeks to contest the Carabao Cup final but this clash at Anfield has vital Premier League points at stake. The game also has a history of producing a high-scoring affair and with the amount of goal-scoring talent on view, there’s no reason to think this one will be any different. Here’s a Newcastle United predicted lineup to see how Eddie Howe might set his team up against a Liverpool side who took a giant step towards securing the title at the weekend.

Newcastle Predicted Lineup vs Liverpool

How Newcastle Have Lined up Recently

Howe tried to shake things up at the weekend and opted to bring back goalkeeper Nick Pope in place of Martin Dubravka. Even though three goals were conceded, Pope is likely to retain his place and get another run in the side. As expected, Tino Livramento was preferred to Kieran Trippier in the right back role with Fabian Schar, Dan Burn and Lewis Hall completing the back four.

Lewis Miley is highly thought of on Tyneside and in the absence of Joelinton, he started alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock. Sandro Tonali was on the bench against Nottingham Forest and played for the last twenty minutes. The likelihood is he will return for this almighty challenge. The front three was the usual trio of Jacob Murphy, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon, all three have served Newcastle so well this season.

Newcastle Recent Form and Tactics

Isak continues to grab all the headlines for the Magpies after grabbing another two goals in the seven-goal thriller with Nottingham Forest. The spread of goals must be a pleasing aspect for Howe as Miley and Murphy were also on the scoresheet. The flexible 4-3-3 set up also allows his full backs to bomb forward and Hall in particular did this so well against Forest.

A big concern must be how the Tricky Trees took advantage of their weakness at defending set pieces, Newcastle looked far too vulnerable at times against their Champions League hopefuls. In general, it must be a concern that Newcastle have conceded nine goals in their last three games. Goals from both sides are expected given the history of the fixture and the recent 3-3 draw when the pair met at St James Park in December. On the plus side for Howe’s men, it’s now thirteen wins in their last sixteen matches. Champions League qualification is still a very realistic goal.

Newcastle United Injuries to Consider

Sven Botman is making good progress with his knee injury and is close to a return, Jamaal Lascelles and Joelinton are also carrying knee injuries but neither will be considered for the trip to Anfield. The race is on to be available for selection for the Carabao cup final at Wembley on Sunday March 16.
