Bayern Munich Ace with ‘Incredible Ability’ Suffers Injury

Bayern Munich won Sunday’s showdown with the Bundesliga’s third-placed team Eintracht Frankfurt with surprising ease, triumphing 4-0 against the side from Germany’s banking metropolis. Yet, they had to pay dearly for this victory, as midfield leader Joshua Kimmich had to come off during the first half with a hamstring problem. The club have now given an update on Kimmich’s injury.

After the Frankfurt match Bayern’s club President Herbert Hainer told the media that according to the medical staff, the Kimmich injury was “not very bad”.

Meanwhile boss Vincent Kompany said: “It’s normal that something would happen at some point when you’ve played every minute, but I’d also say he [Kimmich] is not like everyone. He has an incredible ability to always play, always be ready and always perform. We’ll see how long he will be out for. But if it’s not too long then it’s not a big problem.”

Crucial Player for Bayern

Despite being on the transfer list last summer, Kimmich has played his way back into a leadership role at the team under coach Vincent Kompany this season.

He was the only player not to have missed a minute of competitive action before his substitution on Sunday.

He is Bavarian the side’s third captain after Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller, wearing the armband whenever both of those veterans are out. Many fans and football pundits alike see him as the future leader of the team, should he decide to extend his contract, which expires this summer.

The club’s front office agree with that sentiment as well. After the successful long-term extensions with stars such as Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies, it is their priority to tie down Kimmich next with talks reaching the final stages according to Fabrizio Romano.

Bayern will hope that his injury is truly as mild as expected, given that the first leg of the pivotal UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie is coming up next week.
