What Happened With Fofana?
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Wesley Fofana is now back available to play for the Blues after recovering from injury. The Frenchman has been out of action since early December (2024) because of a hamstring injury and his last appearance for them was in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.

Fast-forward to after their recent loss to the Villans and Fofana is now back in contention to play. It’s also added that the centre-back is expected to be a part of the Chelsea squad for their game against Southampton which is earlier than expected. Enzo Maresca had hinted before Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Brighton & Hove Albion that the Frenchman was closing in on a return and it seems like the 24-year-old has worked hard to make himself available for his side.
Fofana Returns in Perfect Moment For Chelsea
The return of the French centre-back comes at the best possible moment. This is because the Blues saw Trevoh Chalobah sustain an injury in the recent game against Unai Emery’s side and Maresca has now ruled him out for a short period too. The gaffer will be pleased to have Fofana back into his squad, considering how highly he rates the defender in his set-up.

The Italian coach had heaped the 24-year-old with praise earlier this season, claiming “Wes is a player I really love” after Chelsea’s 3-0 win over West Ham United earlier in the 2024/25 season. Fofana has made 12 appearances in the Premier League for the Blues this season, helping them keep three clean sheets and the Blues have kept just one clean sheet in 14 games without him.
