How West Ham Have Lined Up Recently

Potter has lined up with West Ham in a 3-4-2-1, changing from Julen Lopetegui’s usual formation.

Alphonse Areola will be expected to start in goal. Lucasz Fabianski replaced the injured Areola for nine consecutive matches before getting injured himself in a 1-0 away win against Ivan Juric’s Southampton. Fabianski had become the first-choice keeper, but it looks as if Areola is back starting every match.

Against Chelsea, Potter played his usual three at the back with Vladimir Coufal, Max Kilman and Aaron Cresswell, with Jean-Clair Todibo returning from injury. This turns into a back five under pressure with the wing-backs being Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Emerson. The Hammers are yet to keep a clean sheet under Potter, with their last coming in a 1-0 away win against Southampton.

Edson Alvarez and Tomas Soucek started as CDMs, with Guido Rodriguez making odd appearances here and there. That being said, it is rumoured that the Argentinian will have his contract cancelled, prompting a move back to a La Liga club. Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus have played on the wings with Crysencio Summerville slotting in when his side has suspensions or injuries. Lucas Paqueta and Carlos Soler play as the attacking midfielder between the wingers. Niklas Fullkrug started in the FA Cup against Villa but was subbed off due to yet another injury.

West Ham’s recent form

In Potter’s first league match, West Ham beat Fulham 3-2 at the London Stadium. Since then, he has lost at home to Crystal Palace and more recently drew to Aston Villa away. Jacob Ramsay scored in the opening eight minutes for the hosts but Emerson scored twenty minutes before the final whistle to gain a well-deserved point.

Since then, the Hammers have been unable to extend away from the relegation zone, however with a 10-point gap between them and Leicester City, it looks almost certain Potter’s side will be playing Premier League football next season.

In their latest outing, Potter returned to Stamford Bridge after getting sacked by Chelsea two seasons ago, and it was a dream start for his side, taking the lead on the stroke of halftime through Bowen. Albeit, this lead wouldn’t last long with a Pedro Neto and a Wan-Bissaka own goal giving the Blues all three points.

West Ham Injuries to consider

The manager will have six injuries to consider in his team selection. Todibo and Paqueta are both doubtful for the match with minor injuries. This is the case for  Fullkrug, who is out with a hamstring injury.

Alvarez is expected to return soon with a muscle injury albeit, the wait for both Michail Antonio and Summerville is a lot longer, with both players not available until May.
