Hammers Amongst Clubs in for Aaron Wan-Bissaka

The Telegraph has reported that West Ham have entered the race for the right-back. They are “among clubs” including Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, who are interested in the 26-year-old.

Manchester United reportedly expect “serious interest” from Premier League clubs this transfer window in their last opportunity to cash in; his contract was set to expire this summer, but the club activated a 12-month extension.

The Telegraph reports that “it remains to be seen” whether the player even wants to leave. It was reported a “not guaranteed” exit by Fabrizio Romano previously.

West Ham Continue to Strengthen Their Defence

West Ham have not been afraid to spend this window: they bought Luis Guilherme for around €30 million and are linked with Reiss Nelson.

However, it’s their defence that they have really strengthened. They spent a hefty £40 million to reunite Max Kilman with new manager Julen Lopetegui, and are closing in on Todibo from Nice for around £27 million.

Wan-Bissaka will help this, as he is “especially exceptional in one-on-one defending”. This strengthening of the backline is crucial: they conceded an incredible 74 goals in the league last season, only less than the relegated Sheffield United, Burnley, and Luton Town.

Contrastingly, they scored a respectable 60 goals. It is not surprising to see a heavy focus on the defence in this summer transfer window, as the Hammers look to spend big and push for European football again next season.
