How Bayern Munich Have Lined Up Recently

Bayern began the turbulent 4-3 victory against Holstein Kiel at the weekend as follows:
Manuel Neuer was in goal, as the back four consisted of Konrad Laimer, Dayot Upamecano, Kim Min-jae, and Raphael Guerreiro. Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic were the holding midfielders, while the front four was made up of Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala, Kingsley Coman, and Harry Kane.

Like in the previous most recent games, coach Vincent Kompany made many changes in comparison to the starting 11 of the match before that. First off, he returned the team to its familiar 4-2-3-1 formation, away from the 4-1-4-1 he had used before.

In terms of personnel, Kompany took out Mathys Tel (since loaned out to Tottenham) for Coman, besides that Laimer, Upamecano, Guerreiro, and Musiala also came in for Josip Stanisic, Sacha Boey, Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller.

Bayern Munich Recent Form and Tactics

One might say that Bayern are in fairly good form, as they have won their last three competitive matches. Yet defensively there is still a lot of room for improvement.

The three goals conceded in the Champions League against Feyenoord and the same number given up against Bundesliga newcomers Kiel show that there was a lot of carelessness in defence of late. That has to stop if the team are to succeed against Celtic in Europe and against three of the domestic league’s top five in the coming weeks.

The 4-2-3-1 formation is not the problem, rather lapses of concentration are to blame. Against Kiel, having been 4-0 up relatively early in the second half was the cause of the casual defending that followed. Still, that should not happen to professionals.

Bayern Munich Injuries to Consider

In the pre-match press conference, Kompany said that the squad is looking good and almost at full strength. Daniel Peretz, Hiroki Ito, and Alphonso Davies remain injured though.
