Aston Villa Exploring ‘Potential Last Minute Deal’ for ‘Special’ Player

Aston Villa are the latest club that could take a bet on the talent of João Félix. The Villans are angling for the Portuguese attacker after he has struggled to set alight the Premier League as a Chelsea player.

Chelsea Could Loan Out Félix to Aston Villa

Aston Villa’s Manager Feels Félix Is ‘Special’

Fabrizio Romano revealed Aston Villa are one of four clubs that have an interest in Félix. The team have contacted Jorge Mendes, his agent, to talk about the idea of a “last minute deal” in this window.

Romano’s reports added more details to the link, indicating it is the Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery, who is keen for this move to take place: “Emery remains clear; if there is a chance, he wants João.”

Félix joined the Blues in the summer as Connor Gallagher went to Atlético Madrid. Once dubbed the “next Kaka“, he has repeatedly tried and failed to discover the right place for his heralded abilities.

The attacker’s career path has not lived up to its potential. Yet, Emery still holds a high opinion of the player. According to the New York Times, he has previously said about Félix: “He can assist, score goals, drop deep to build up and he can play in the small spaces and drive into the box. He’s special.”

Félix Falling Short of Expectations at Chelsea

It is a disappointment that life in London has not reignited Félix’s fire as he would have hoped.

The attacker made the switch from Spanish football to Stamford Bridge in a loan deal that lasted the second half of the 2022/23 season. Back on familiar ground, he began his second spell at the club with a bang, scoring the sixth strike in a rampant 6-2 rout of Wolverhampton Wanderers back in August.

That was his only Premier League goal of the term. Most of his minutes have been in the UEFA Conference League. Though he can fill in as a left winger, attacking midfielder, or floating forward, he has lowered in the pecking order. It is another case of questionable squad construction by the Blues.

Emery has a habit of bringing the best out of forwards with his meticulous approach to management. If Aston Villa are glad to gamble on the Portuguese international, it could be worth a shot: he is running out of lifelines.
