Manchester City: ‘Expectation’ Remains ‘One of the Very Best’ Will Join - Gianluigi Donnarumma

Manchester City to Sign Attacker Compared to Salah

Manchester City are earnestly rebuilding their team to try and turn around a slow start to the season. An outlay of over £120 million has gone on three players and the biggest signing in City’s overhaul is Omar Marmoush. Fabrizio Romano confirmed he has joined the Citizens for a fee of £59 million.

Omar Marmoush Completes City Transfer

What Does Marmoush Offer?

City committed to paying a sizeable sum for a player who has not been a household name. However, Marmoush found his feet at Eintracht Frankfurt and left the club with an outstanding body of work.

The forward scored 37 goals and assisted 20 more in his time for the German club in all competitions. He has been particularly explosive in the final third for the last five months. Since the start of August, Marmoush tallied up 16 goals and nine assists in only 17 Bundesliga games. Out of nowhere, he put himself in conversations along with Harry Kane as one of the most feared forwards in the league.

Marmoush was the more prolific part of a goalscoring duo with Hugo Ekitiké for his former club. Many of his goals and assists came from picking the right time to make deep runs behind defensive lines. His speed and smoothness of operation also apply to his dribbling in and out of tight spaces. These abilities have earned the attacker comparisons to his countryman Mo Salah

Above all, the Egyptian is a man who is full of confidence. Frankfurt have heavily relied on their two star forwards to turn the team into one of the best counterattacking clubs in Europe. Pep Guardiola must put faith in his belief in the abilities of his latest acquisition to get the best out of his skills.

How Will Marmoush Fit in City’s Plans?

The Citizens are acquiring a flexible forward at a time when this outfit is crying out for regeneration.

Erling Haaland has handled the goalscoring burden for City in the last three years. However, in this slump, their dependence has been too great on the talismanic striker. At the beginning of 2025, the team’s top two scorers in the league after the Norwegian were Joško Gvardiol and Mateo Kovačić.

Marmoush might not be an outstanding dribbler in the same way as Jérémy Doku or Savinho, but he has never been shot shy like these two wingers. Phil Foden, who has scored five goals in his last three league outings, is finding his shooting boots once again, but the extra firepower is highly welcome.

Marmoush’s role in the squad might mimic the duties of Julián Alvarez in the last two seasons. The Egyptian could fill in for Haaland to rest him in other competitions. It is also possible that he features in another two-striker system with his new teammate. Marmoush has shown how he can profit from the presence of a bigger forward and such a strategy could be better than merely using him as a backup.

Whatever Guardiola chooses to do with the forward, he is an exciting proposition for the here and now. Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis have also signed with the squad this month, but the reigning champions need someone to spark their squad into life. Marmoush might be that man.
