Kyle Walker is about to take on a new challenge with a loan to AC Milan. The defender, a stalwart of Manchester City’s squad, will join the Italian club on loan and he might be moving to Serie A on a permanent basis.

Milan Loan as a New Opportunity
According to Fabrizio Romano, Walker is on his way to AC Milan on loan. Manchester City have agreed to let the defender leave on a deal that will last until the end of this campaign.
Milan will take care of the defender’s salary until the end of this season and this move might be the beginning of a long goodbye for Walker from the club that has been home since the summer of 2017.

Romano revealed that there is also a £4.2 million buyout clause in this deal and the potential of a contract with the Serie A club that would last until June 2027. If Milan choose to use that buy-out option in the summer, City will also cash in on the deal through an undisclosed sell-on clause.
Walker Loan Leaves Duties as Captain
This move to Italy is likely not the way that the Englishman wanted to leave things.
The right-back turned down the chance to transfer to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 after winning the treble, signing his current contract that lasts until next year. As one of the most senior figures in the squad, he also became the club captain and guided City to the Premier League trophy.

However, all good things must come to an end. Walker has not been the driving force for City’s attempted revival. In the leadup to this loan, he has only appeared once for his side since the start of the new year as a substitute.
Through an interview with the BBC, Pep Guardiola declared that Walker was looking at the idea of an exit after an 8-0 victory over Salford City in the FA Cup. The manager said that: “now in his mind, for many reasons, [Walker] would like to explore if he can go to another country to play his last years.”
