Manchester United have had a forgettable first half of the 2024/25 season and spent a chunk of the first-half of the Premier League campaign in the bottom-half of the table. Amid their dismay, changes are being planned, and that includes a plan for midfielder Christian Eriksen.
Manchester United Finalise Plan for Christian Eriksen
What Is United’s Decision On Eriksen’s Future?
The Danish midfielder is moving into the final six months of his current contract with the Red Devils, which expires at the end of June, 2025. Fabrizio Romano has now reported that the club have “already decided internally” that they will not be extending his contract and are going to allow him to leave on a free transfer in the summer as he has “no future” under Ruben Amorim.

It’s also added that only a strong enough financial proposal could convince the club to sell him on a permanent basis in the January transfer window rather than lose him for nothing after the campaign ends. Romano adds that “in case a good club appears with a good proposal for the player, United could be open to facilitating his exit and move on from a signing strongly wanted by previous manager Erik ten Hag”. The journalist claims that Eriksen doesn’t suit Amorim’s vision over what kind of players he wants in his midfield line, with the gaffer craving for more intensity in midfield.
Are Any Clubs Interested In Eriksen?
Fortunately for the 31-year-old midfielder, he should have options available if forced to leave Old Trafford and become a free agent. Romano further claims that Real Betis tried to sign him last summer, but couldn’t strike an agreement with United or the player himself. Dutch giants Ajax have been reported to be interested in bringing their ex-midfielder back to the club, but they need to balance their financial books for that.

Eriksen, who joined the Red Devils as a free agent in the summer of 2022 and is rumoured to be earning a £7.8 million wage package at the club, has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford since Ten Hag’s departure. He has only made three appearances since Amorim’s arrival, which has included two starts, and has failed to impress under the Portuguese gaffer.
