Hojlund Returns: Manchester United Predicted Lineup vs Liverpool for March 17

Manchester United play host to bitter rivals Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at Old Trafford. Kick-off is at 3:30 pm GMT on March 17. Whilst Jurgen Klopp’s side are fighting for two further trophies after already capturing the Carabao Cup, this is the Red Devils last chance for silverware this season. Here is the Manchester United predicted lineup for the clash.

Manchester United Predicted Lineup vs Liverpool In Huge FA Cup Showdown

How Manchester United Have Lined-Up Recently

Manchester United deploy, with only rare exceptions, a 4-2-3-1 formation. André Onana is the goalkeeper, with Diogo Dalot a regular at right-back. Raphael Varane has been a mainstay at centre-back, partnered by either Jonny Evans or Victor Lindelof. The Swedish defender and Sofyan Amrabat have been filling in at left-back for the injured Luke Shaw.

Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo have been the regular pairing in midfield of late, except in the last round of the FA Cup against Nottingham Forest, for which Scott McTominay started.

Alejandro Garnacho has been ever-present on the wing recently, able to play on both flanks. Bruno Fernandes has started in the number 10 position, with McTominay as an auxiliary number 8/second number 10 for the past two encounters against Everton and Manchester City. Antony is a rotation option on the right wing.

Marcus Rashford has been starting as a striker in recent weeks.

Manchester United Recent Form and Tactics

The Red Devils have been inconsistent – with four wins and two losses in all competitions in the past six games.

Whilst results have generally been favourable, performances have not matched up as Erik ten Hag’s side have had to contend with an unprecedented injury situation – severely compromising their style of play, fluidity in possession and tactical shape against the ball. A morale-boosting, if unconvincing win over Everton last weekend will provide some confidence going into this intense grudge match.

Manchester United Injuries to Consider

Number two goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is suspected to be out until the end of the month – with a muscular injury.

Luke Shaw is out for the season with a thigh injury, whereas Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia are expected back at the end of the month with respective knee injuries. Martinez will travel with the Argentina national team for the forthcoming international break. Jonny Evans is a doubt and will be assessed before the game.

Anthony Martial is still absent while recovering from groin surgery but could make a return at the start of April.

The Red Devils have several returnees who could well make an appearance against Liverpool, with Aaron Wan Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund all having trained this week.
