Mason Mount’s Frustrating Injury Spell Is Nearly Over

A Slow Start at Old Trafford

Mason Mount was Manchester United’s first signing last summer, completing a £55 million switch from Chelsea. The English midfielder struggled to find his rhythm in his first weeks at the club, making only seven starts for the Red Devils before getting injured in November.

Mount last played for the Red Devils in their 1-0 win over Luton Town last year, missing a total of 21 games across all competitions. However, the 25-year-old’s rehab process seems to be over as he makes a much-anticipated return to United’s training.

When Will Mount Make His Return?

On Tuesday, Manchester United confirmed the “fantastic” midfielder has trained alongside the rest of the squad, ending a four-month spell away from the training ground.

Asked about Mount’s fitness before his side’s 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday, Erik ten Hag told reporters (via The Independent): “I think he is in a good spell now, and he will return shortly, I think after the international break.”

Despite his return from injury, Mount is unlikely to feature for United in their upcoming FA Cup clash against Liverpool next Sunday.

The former Chelsea star will be available for selection when Gareth Southgate announces England’s squad for friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium later this week. However, he will most likely stay at the club to prepare to make his return against Brentford after the international break.

Manchester United’s Full Injury List

Mount’s imminent comeback is a major squad boost for United, who are set to have another attacking midfielder in their ranks for the final phase of the campaign. But that’s not the only positive injury update from Old Trafford.

According to Ten Hag, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Rasmus Hojlund, and Harry Maguire could return against Liverpool this weekend. However, four other players are expected to remain on the team’s injury list ahead of the FA Cup showdown.

Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, and Tyrell Malacia are out with long-term injuries and are unlikely to play again for the Red Devils this season.
Lisandro Martinez is also out with a serious knee injury, but Ten Hag is confident that he will regain full fitness before the end of the campaign.
