The journalist adds that “they are interested” in the ex-Stoke City striker and have been asked to be informed of the conditions of any possible transfer, but have not yet formally approached the German club about the signing. He also claims that the Red Devils have not held any active negotiations to sign Choupo-Moting yet and that he is currently among the options they are pondering about making a move for.

Romano also opened up on Bayern’s stance on their forward’s future, writing on his CaughtOffside blog: “Still, the issue is that Bayern Munich are insisting on him staying at the club – he’s a popular player at the club, an experienced player, and they need some rotation, so he could be an important option for them over the course of the season.”

“United are informed on the conditions but at the moment Bayern are not giving any green light for him to go.”

Manchester United’s Winter Transfer Activity So Far

The Red Devils have extensively focused on outgoings rather than incomings in the winter transfer window so far. Young full-back Alvaro Fernandez has also been offloaded to Benfica.

With that being said, it appears that United are going to target the signing of a forward if they do make any signings in the winter window. Choupo-Moting is quite the experienced forward who has played in the Premier League with Stoke City in the past and had a spell at PSG before joining Bayern Munich in 2020.

The 34-year-old, who has scored only two goals in 16 Bundesliga appearances this season, was praised as a  “great guy” by former Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann last year too.
