How Chelsea Have Lined Up Recently

The starting eleven has been relatively settled in most areas of the pitch. Robert Sanchez has been ever-present between the sticks. The defence has seen some turmoil with Marc Cucurella, Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, and Reece James seeing the field.

The defensive midfield pivot has usually featured Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, who didn’t start last time out and was missed. Fans got a first-hand impression of why Caicedo was considered “elite” before making the switch to London. Lesley Ugochukwu replaced the Ecuadorian and got a start against Newcastle.

Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher, Raheem Sterling, and Nicolas Jackson have been the main attacking outlets.

Chelsea Recent Form and Tactics

Mauricio Pochettino has been resolute in his 4-2-3-1 setup and the results in recent times have been mixed. A 4-4 draw with Manchester City was the clear highlight as was the 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur. Things crashed back down to earth with a 4-1 defeat last weekend.

The goals have started flowing from a team that was very blunt on attack last year. With that has come some fragility at the back with eight goals conceded in their past two matches. One thing is for certain, the Blues are not going to be a boring team under Pochettino.

Chelsea Absences to Consider

The latest injury update is a familiar read for Chelsea fans with seven players currently hurt. Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku are both listed as “reconditioning phase” which could indicate a return is near if one or both get up to speed in time.

Malo Gusto, Trevoh Chalobah, Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Wesley Fofana are injured while both James and Cucurella are suspended for this clash.
