Manchester United Push to Facilitate Greenwood Loan

The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell claims that La Liga side Getafe are now in talks with the Red Devils over a possible loan move for Greenwood before the end of the summer transfer window.

He adds that United are trying hard to facilitate the move but know that time is tight over a deal. Whitwell further adds that there is a chance that the 21-year-old could also join the Spanish side outside of the summer window, but only if he agrees to receive a severance fee from the English side and mutually terminate his contract with the club, which expires in 2025.

Whitwell also adds that Lazio had been in talks over a deal. Spanish journalist Guillermo Rai has added that the Red Devils are open to not receiving a possible loan fee to send him to Getafe for this season. According to Sam Mokbel United’s Director of Football, John Murtough has taken over discussions to help get the move done. He states that “there is hope” that an agreement can be met on Greenwood’s proposed wages, which is the sticking point holding back the deal.

David Ornstein has also reported on the possible loan and confirmed Greenwood is close to moving from Manchester United to Getafe on loan. He also reports that both teams are optimistic and working on finalising the paperwork in time to complete the deal.

United Activity on Deadline Day?

Erik ten Hag’s side have been active on deadline day, officially confirming multiple deals. They confirmed the signing of Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir to improve the number of goalkeeping options, while Sergio Reguilon has signed on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

They also confirmed a one-year contract for Jonny Evans, who will be involved with the first team. The Red Devils are reported to have agreed a deal to bring in midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina to wrap up their transfer business.

However, they seem to be working on finding a solution to the Greenwood situation. The club already confirmed in August that Greenwood will not be playing for them again, but the Englishman is trying to find a side that can help him get back to playing football at the highest possible level.
