Chelsea Make Approach for Djordje Petrovic

Who Is Petrovic?

The Serbian goalkeeper came through the youth system of his native club FK Cukaricki, and spent four years with them, making 78 appearances for them and keeping 30 clean sheets. Last year, he joined the MLS side New England Revolution and has impressed for them.

Petrovic made 25 appearances for them across all competitions last season, keeping eight clean sheets and conceding just 29 goals. The 23-year-old has been described as “absolutely incredible” by a former teammate and seems to have the qualities to excel in Europe.

How Much Are Chelsea Ready to Offer for Petrovic?

The report mentions that they have made their opening offer of around £15 million for the 23-year-old’s services and that negotiations are ongoing with the MLS club over the possibility of signing him before the end of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea decided to send their goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan to Real Madrid until the end of the 2023/24 season. Mauricio Pochettino’s side are lacking in the goalkeeping department after offloading both Kepa and Edouard Mendy this summer, which is why they are pushing to sign the Serbian goalkeeper.

It remains to be seen if they can complete the deal to provide competition to Sanchez for the no.1 role this season. Lucas Bergstrom was on the bench for the opening game against Liverpool – but it appears Chelsea are looking to sign a goalkeeper with more experience in order to strengthen their goalkeeping department.
