What Are Chelsea Getting in Washington?

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea are on the verge of signing 18-year-old Brazilian forward Deivid Washington in an attempt to further bulk up their options for the long-term future of the club. The teenager is a versatile striker who can play all across the frontline, be it as a number nine or even on either wing if necessary.

He made 22 appearances in the 2022/23 season for Santos and their U-20 side combined, scoring six goals in all competitions. He is yet to make his debut across any level for his national team.

The 18-year-old is an exciting player who loves to make things happen in the final third for his side. WhoScored has categorized his biggest strengths to be his dribbling ability and tendency to get past players with ease, as well as his capability to score from long-range efforts. He is a hard worker who is a threat from counter-attacks, likes to take long shots and plays short passes in link-up play.

The Details of Washington’s Move to Chelsea

Romano has confirmed that the Brazilian teenager has already completed his medical with the London heavyweights and is now on the verge of being announced as the latest acquisition. He reported: “Deivid Washington has signed contract and completed medical as new Chelsea player. Official statement soon as deal finally signed with Santos for 2005 striker to join on €16m (£13.7 million) plus €4m (£3.4 million) deal. Here we go, confirmed.”

At this point, it’s still not known in what capacity Washington will be playing for the Blues this season or if he’ll be loaned out. The 18-year-old will become their latest signing from Brazil, as they also signed Angelo Gabriel earlier this year as well as midfielder Andrey Santos last season. The Santos forward appears to be a promising player with a lot of potential, but it remains to be seen if he can spearhead their attack anytime soon.
