The report From The Telegraph mentions that Newcastle have earmarked the majority of their summer transfer budget to sign two new midfield players. The article also mentions that Eddie Howe wants two elite players this summer in preparation for next season, with the club being desperate to sign a No.6 in this window.

The article from Edwards and McGrath details that the Geordies are “pushing hard”  to sign Barella in a seal thought to be around £50 Million. A deal is thought to be reachable, with intensive talks taking place over the last few days. The Italian international is reportedly on £154K per week. Newcastle will be delighted to sign a player of Barella’s calibre, and capturing him would allow Howe to play Bruno Guimaraes further forward. Barella would fit Howe’s desire to sign elite players in this window.

Barella is an exceptional player who is arguably one of the best deep-lying playmakers in Europe. He has been capped 43 times by Italy, scoring eight goals, highlighting the goalscoring threat he would bring to the Newcastle team.
