Antony Unlikely to Be Fit for FA Cup Final

Injury Setback for Brazilian Winger

Manchester United winger Antony was carried off in the first half of The Red Devils’ 4-1 Premier League win over Chelsea on May 25. Speaking on MUTV, Erik ten Hag was initially upbeat about the winger’s chances to recover for the final. “We’ve all seen how he [Antony] came off and didn’t look great. But the first assessment is not too bad and a good opportunity he is available for the Cup final next week.”

Despite the optimism for Antony to make the Wembley showdown against Manchester City, it now appears his recovery has not been as straightforward as initially expected, according to Ten Hag. “Dos Santos still has a chance but it’s a really small chance,” he said. “He didn’t make the progress, so he still has a chance, but unlikely he is available.”

Antony’s Career at Manchester United Recapped

Brazilian international Antony joined Ten Hag’s Old Trafford revolution on September 1, 2022. He joined United for £86 million on a five-year deal from Ajax, with the option of an additional year, keeping him at Old Trafford until at least 2027.

Since joining United, he has appeared 44 times, scoring eight goals and providing three assists for his teammates. He is a skilful player who is adept at skipping past opponents with ease when on form. His pace is another weapon, which ensures he can play a pass and then run in behind the opposition for the return pass. Antony has shown his ability and how his influence can change games for Manchester United, and he will be a big miss for Ten Hag’s team as they look to complete a domestic cup double on June 3.
