How Tottenham Hotspur Have Lined Up Recently

Cristian Stellini has done relatively well as Spurs’ interim manager since taking over after the sacking of Antonio Conte. He hasn’t really made major changes to the system or line-up from his predecessor, playing the kind of players that performed under Conte too.

The back line currently consists of Hugo Lloris, Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Clement Lenglet, Pedro Porro and Ivan Perisic – who are their strongest options right now. In midfield, the lack of options means Pierre-Emile Højbjerg keeps starting with Oliver Skipp. Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min’s improving form means they’re undroppable, but this game could be one where Richarlison – described as a “complete forward” by Carlo Ancelotti a few years ago – makes a return to the starting XI.

Tottenham Hotspur Recent Form and Tactics

Tottenham are unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions, having won two of those games and drawn three – which means they’re yet to really reach top form heading into the final stretch of the season.

In terms of the tactical approach, Stellini has made some slight tweaks to the system that Conte used at Tottenham. He plays with a similar 3-4-3 system as the Italian gaffer but has adjusted the style of some players as well as giving freedom to certain individuals – unshackling them from the burdens of too much defensive responsibility.

Under this system, Son is given more license to bomb forward with the ball and get himself into more goal-scoring areas. Kane is playing his role as the commander in attack, often dropping back to help with the build-up play – while also timing his movement perfectly to get among the goals consistently.

He’s yet to score a Premier League goal for Spurs, which the Brazilian will aim to change by being more threatening with his movement and finishing in the final third. Spurs’ style also encourages wing-backs Perisic and January signing Porro to get forward, and they’ll need to be accurate with their crosses to set up big chances and thrill the home fans.

Being in a relegation battle, Bournemouth will pose a significant threat to Spurs. They’ll be fearless with their attacking style and aim to trouble them with impressive set-piece routines. Romero & co will have to maintain a sturdy backline to ensure the visitors don’t get too much freedom in their box and try to protect Lloris as much as possible.

Tottenham Hotspur Injuries to Consider

Tottenham will be without influential midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, who is out for the rest of the season after sustaining an ugly ankle injury earlier this season. Yves Bissouma is still working on recovering from an injury, while Ryan Sessegnon and Ben Davies are still working alone on regaining full fitness.
