Nizaar Kinsella has put out a report for the Evening Standard regarding the search to replace Graham Potter following the Englishman’s sacking over the weekend.

In this report, it is stated that Roberto De Zerbi won’t be approached for the job but it does name a five-man shortlist for the hot seat. Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino, Ruben Amorim, Oliver Glasner, and Luis Enrique were all named as potential successors, Luciano Spalletti is mentioned as a potential name but one that isn’t in contention right now.

Variety of Names

This reported group of potential replacements has a real variety of candidates. Some, like Nagelsmann and Amorim are younger and less experienced. The latter has question marks over moving to the Premier League as his only success has come in Portugal, even if his title win was a remarkable achievement.

On the other side of the equation is names like Enrique and Pochettino who have been managers at the top level for some time now, the former went from an impressive stint at the helm of Barcelona to managing the Spain national team which is in itself a notable resume.

How Long Could the Decision Take

It is reported by the Standard that “Chelsea do not want to rush into a decision” having rushed into their appointment of Potter, which didn’t end well for anyone involved. This time around it is believed that the owner is happy to operate with Bruno Saltor as interim coach until the right decision can be made.

It is mentioned by Kinsella that there could be as many as seven names considered for the managerial position, but as of now the main candidates consist of the five mentioned previously. Spalletti’s status is up in the air as he has the quality to be appointed, but his title charge with Napoli may make him unattainable.
