2022-23 Champions League: Quarter-Final Favourites

The majority of the teams that have reached the UEFA Champions League 2022–23 quarter-finals are in good form. The exception could be Chelsea and Real Madrid; both are having tough times in domestic competitions. However, they have both done well in Europe and will meet each other in the last eight phase.

The heavyweight clash in this phase is expected to be the tie between Manchester City and Bayern Munich. AC Milan and Napoli will face off against each other, which will bring a lot of excitement to the Italian fans. Meanwhile the Benfica vs Inter Milan matchup is expected to be more open in this phase.

Benfica vs Inter Milan

First Leg: 11 April (Estadio da Luz); Second Leg: 19 April (San Siro)

Benfica have been in stellar form this season, topping the Primeira Liga by 10 points and showing commanding performances in the Champions League. Benfica overcame Club Brugge 7-1 on aggregate in the Round of 16 and is expected to maintain its dominance against Inter Milan in the quarter-final.

On the other hand, Inter Milan are competing for a top-four finish in the Serie A this season. They narrowly defeated Porto 1-0 on aggregate in the previous round. Based on their current form, Benfica seem to have a slight edge over Inter Milan in their quest for a semi-final berth.

Man City vs Bayern Munich

First Leg: 11 April (City of Manchester Stadium); Second Leg: 19 April (Allianz Arena)

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side thrashed RB Leipzig in both legs of the Round of 16, while Julian Nagelsmann’s Bayern Munich overcame Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 on aggregate. Thomas Tuchel replaced Nagelsmann last month. This makes the tie even more interesting because of the rivalry between Pep and Tuchel.

Manchester City will start as favourites to beat Bayern Munich at home. If City beat Bayern in the first leg, they will be in a comfortable position ahead of the second leg.

Real Madrid vs Chelsea

First Leg: 12 April (Santiago Bernabeu); Second Leg: 18 April (Stamford Bridge)

Real Madrid and Chelsea have both shown strong performances in the Champions League. The Madrid side thrashed Liverpool in the first leg of the Round of 16 and eventually won the tie 6-2 on aggregate. Chelsea, on the other hand, beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 on aggregate in the previous phase. Chelsea sacked their manager Graham Potter at the beginning of April, and this could have a huge impact on the final outcome of the fixture.

Real Madrid should start as the favourites over Chelsea because Carlo Ancelotti’s team has proven that they are capable of winning a tie even under the most stressful conditions.

AC Milan vs Napoli

First Leg: 12 April (San Siro); Second Leg: 18 April (Stadio Diego Armando Maradona)

Italian sides’ recent performances in the Champions League competition have been pretty ordinary. But this season seems to be different, as three Italian clubs will play in the Champions League 2022-23 quarter-finals. At least one Italian team will advance to the semi-finals, as AC Milan and Napoli will meet in this round. The Napoli team is having a dream run in both domestically and in Europe this season. They overpowered Eintracht Frankfurt 5-0 in the previous round, and it is anticipated that they will continue to rule Milan in the next round.

AC Milan, on the other hand, beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Round of 16 to secure a place in the quarter-finals. The recent 4-0 demolition of Napoli by Milan in Serie A changed the tone of this contest. This fixture is anticipated to be a more exciting watch with plenty of end-to-end action.
