Young Defender Pens New Deal

On Tuesday, young Oxford defender James Golding enjoyed a double celebration with a call-up to the Republic of Ireland U19 squad and a new deal with the club.

The 18-year-old, who has had a one-year extension activated by the club, has also been selected for the Republic of Ireland U19 squad for their forthcoming UEFA U19 Championship games at home to Slovakia, Estonia and Greece on March 22, 25 and 28 respectively.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “I’m really happy about the new deal. I have felt at home ever since I first signed here as a scholar and it’s great to know that the new gaffer and the club have that faith in me.

“It has been a little frustrating not to play more this season, a couple of injuries haven’t helped but I’m back in training and feeling good.

“It’s always nice to get away with Ireland, I enjoy that and it’s fantastic experience so I’m looking forward to that

“The new deal means I get the chance to finish this season strongly then do what I always do: work hard, keep striving to improve and then come back in pre-season ready to really kick on”.

Robins Rearrangement

Oxford’s League One fixture at home to Cheltenham Town, scheduled for Saturday, March 25, was then postponed due to international call-ups.

The Robins have had three players called up for international duty and therefore requested that the game be postponed.

The match will now take place on Tuesday, April 25 with a 7.45pm kick-off.

Former Striker Linked With Oxford United Return

Oxford United are one of several Football League clubs showing an interest in striker Dan Agyei, according to Football League World.

The 25-year-old, who has netted 12 goals for Crewe Alexandra this season, is out of contract at the end of the current campaign after signing an 18-month deal last January.

The U’s, along with Exeter City, Luton Town, Portsmouth and Salford City, are all looking to sign the former Burnley man in the summer, according to the report.

Crewe have held talks with several players, including Agyei, over a new deal but manager Lee Bell confirmed there has been interest in their top scorer.

During his time at Oxford, the striker netted 11 goals in 93 appearances, including the winner at rivals Swindon Town.

Manning’s First Game Ends Level

Liam Manning took charge of Oxford for the first time but was unable to end their unbeaten run, which now stretches to 11 games following a 1-1 draw at Morecambe.

The U’s took a deserved lead into half time when Marcus Browne poked home the opener, but the hosts grew into the game after the restart and netted a late goal to earn a share of the spoils.

Due to results around them, Oxford now find themselves just two points clear of the drop.
