How Chelsea Have Lined Up Recently

The defensive line has settled recently with Marc Cucurella reclaiming his spot on the left, Thiago Silva and Benoit Badiashile occupying the centre in front of Kepa Arrizabalaga, while Reece James has returned from injury and immediately taken back a spot on the right side of the defense.

Everything beyond the defense has been completely in flux due to injuries and signings although Kai Havertz and Mason Mount tend to feature in some manner. The supporting cast is less cemented.

Chelsea Recent Form and Tactics

Graham Potter has bounced between a 4-2-3-1 and 3-4-3 setup to mixed results. The four at the back has seemingly yielded better results, although the 3-4-3 seems more natural for the players in the squad. The on-field play tends to be better with a three at the back as it makes the most of James’ abilities as a wing-back.

While the final results haven’t changed the formation has, it remains to be seen whether Potter settles on one or switches as needed.

Chelsea Injuries to Consider

During a pre-match press conference the Blues’ manager gave an update on a number of players. Denis Zakaria, Mateo Kovacic, Raheem Sterling, and Wesley Fofana are all close but won’t be fit for this match. Sterling featured against Fulham last week but took a kick in training that has set him back.
