‘Draft Being Prepared’: Fabrizio Romano Confirms New Contract Agreement for Chelsea 106-Appearance ‘Leader’

The Blues signed two promising young centre-backs in the form of Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile this season, but it appears that they still regard Silva as the most important part of their backline. The 38-year-old has been one of their best players this season and seems to have convinced them to keep him for a longer period.

Romano adds that Silva will be signing a new one-year contract that is valid until June 2024. The London side are now in the process of drafting up the paperwork for a new deal after the Brazilian centre-back gave his verbal confirmation and has even greenlit the deal.

Silva Set to Continue Chelsea Journey With Contract Extension

The 38-year-old is the oldest player in the Chelsea squad, but that doesn’t affect how respected he is at Stamford Bridge. Silva joined the Blues in 2020 and ended up reuniting with his former PSG manager Thomas Tuchel, with the two helping Chelsea win the Champions League title in the 2020/21 season.

Despite the Blues struggling with transition and a change in system under new owners over the last year or so, Silva has remained one of their most consistent players. He’s helped them keep eight clean sheets in 24 appearances this season and was hailed a ‘leader on and off the pitch’ by Chelsea manager Graham Potter earlier this season. He’s made 106 appearances for the London side so far in under three years. It now appears that his story with the Premier League side will continue.
