The Red Devils have now accepted the fact that the Portuguese superstar might not want to stay at Old Trafford beyond the January transfer window. He tried his best to orchestrate a transfer in the summer transfer window, but couldn’t get any prominent clubs to seriously push for his acquisition.

Plettenburg adds that a potential return to Sporting Club could be an option for Ronaldo. He started his professional career with the Portuguese outfit and could decide to end it there too. The higher-ups at United are supporting Erik ten Hag and want to maintain the utmost peace and tranquillity in the dressing room. They are ready to strengthen the team for him in the January window, too.

The Red Devils are currently looking for a player to potentially replace the 37-year-old forward in the winter window. One of the options being assessed is Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who is having a great season with Bayern Munich and has scored ten goals in 14 games. He also has experience of playing in the Premier League with Stoke City.

The Portuguese forward is yet to solidify himself as a regular starter under Ten Hag and has been benched for the majority of the games. The 37-year-old has only scored four goals this season – including a single strike in the Premier League. He doesn’t look so comfortable under Ten Hag’s system, which is why he might be pushing for an exit. But it appears that the Red Devils are looking into a future without the player after the World Cup.
