Southampton vs Newcastle United Predictions and Best Odds for November 6

Southampton vs Newcastle United

Eddie Howe and his entourage travel to the South Coast to take on Southampton on Sunday, November 6. They will be looking to continue their rich vein of form by taking all three points home with them.

Southampton vs Newcastle United Predictions

Southampton Current Run of Form

Ralph Hasenhüttl has embraced scrutiny due to his side’s poor start to the term as they narrowly sit outside the relegation battle. With two losses, two draws and the sole win in their last five fixtures, it’s safe to say they haven’t started in the fashion they had hoped. That win came against south coast rivals Bournemouth, where an early goal from Ché Adams ultimately put the game to bed.

They were at the hands of a defeat from emphatic Manchester City at the end of October and more recently to Crystal Palace, though Vicente Guaita was forced to make four saves from inside the box. The host’s finest result this season came against league leaders Arsenal as they held them to a stalemate game that ended 1-1.

Ché Adams leads the top goalscoring charts for Saints, yet has only found the back of the net a mere three times, which is concerning.

Newcastle United Run of Form

The team from North East are in an unexpected, pinch-yourself territory at the moment as they sit fourth in the Premier League table. Although it’s early, they have given no reason as to why their form is not sustainable. The away side will be buoyed by their 4-0 victory over struggling Aston Villa. Both Miguel Almirón and Callum Wilson have been firing on all cylinders recently. The pair have scored 13 of Newcastle’s 24 goals this season.

The visiting team have also enjoyed convincing wins against Tottenham, Everton and Brentford. They were halted by Manchester United in a game that saw no goals. Due to their ferocious start, they have been labelled the most ‘inform’ team in England’s top flight.

Recent Head to Head

The hosts were last victorious in this fixture in November 2020 and have lost twice and drawn one, since. Their latest match-up came back in March of this year where the score tilted in the favour of Newcastle, with Chris Wood and Bruno Guimarães the scorers.

A 96th-minute equaliser from captain James Ward-Prowse prevented a Newcastle win the game before where four goals were converted in the second half. Southampton dominated proceedings with their possession numbers and outperformed their opponents in almost every aspect.

In their second meeting of the 2020/21 campaign, the game was intense. Five goals, a red card and two injury woes to Newcastle. Almirón bagged two first-half goals to extend their lead to 3-1. Saints drew one back to reduce the deficit but spent the rest of the game with a lot possession but no end product.

Both teams have made drastic changes to their personnel since, however. One thing to note is that this fixture has commonly oozed goals, with 12 from the last three meetings.

Southampton vs Newcastle United Prediction

As they looked to extend their unbeaten streak to ten games, Newcastle should come out on Sunday with a victory. It seems inconceivable Southampton escape this game with any result in their favour as we reflect on their recent form. Star signing Alexander Isak and fan favourite Allan Saint-Maximin are still out of action, but the Magpies are still in fine scoring form, so the pair will not be missed. Southampton have been able to keep one clean sheet all season whilst Newcastle run a very tight ship defensively.

Current Odds: Southampton vs Newcastle United

SkyBet have Newcastle United as the favourites with them being priced at 10/11 to win on the road. A home win for Southampton is 3/1 whilst a draw between the sides comes in at 13/5.
