Fabrizio Romano: Sunderland in Talks to Sign Manchester United Youngster Once Called ‘Unbelievable in Training’

Amad Diallo

Manchester United winger Amad Diallo is closing in on a loan move to Sunderland, reports Fabrizio Romano. The Ivory Coast international is set for another spell outside Old Trafford after not being able to win over Erik ten Hag in pre-season.

Sunderland in Advanced Talks With Manchester United for Amad Diallo

United Youngster Set for Spell in the Championship

Diallo spent the entirety of the 2021/22 season on loan at Rangers, where he made only 13 appearances across all competitions. But with the Red Devils eager to have him playing regular football and in the English football style, they seem to be content with loaning him to a Championship side.

Sunderland are currently in advanced talks with the Manchester side over a season-long loan move, adds Romano. The Black Cats are currently trying to secure promotion into the Premier League next season after having moved back into the second division of English football in the last campaign.

Amad should at least be guaranteed regular starts with the Tyneside club as they want to bolster their attacking line with quality, exciting players. The 20-year-old could be in line for regular appearances this season if he decides to join Sunderland, which should help him getting adapted to the English conditions.

Diallo’s Difficult Spell at United So Far

The Ivory Coast winger was highly rated at Atalanta when United came knocking for him in 2020. The Manchester side ended up paying a massive £37 million for a player who only had 122 minutes of first-team football up until then. The winger was able to impress his teammates at Old Trafford soon after arriving in January 2021, with the-then United winger Daniel James dubbing him as ‘unbelievable in training’ and hailing his professionalism.

However, the 20-year-old failed to break into the first team and his weak physical attributes saw him loaned out to Rangers last season for some development. He came back in the summer for pre-season training under Erik ten Hag and even featured in the Red Devils’ friendly games.

Amad assisted Facundo Pellistri’s goal in the 4-0 win over Liverpool in pre-season and even played as a false nine on a few occasions. But Diallo has not featured in a single Premier League game for the Red Devils this season and has not even been in the matchday squad even once.

Both he and Manchester United will hope his imminent loan move to Sunderland works out well enough for him to challenge for a regular place in the first-team next season.
