Newcastle United Set to Make Decision Over Manchester United Transfer Offer

Martin Dubravka transfer

Newcastle United will soon make a decision over a reported transfer bid from Manchester United for goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, according to Fabrizio Romano.

David De Gea was originally deemed to be Manchester United’s undisputed starter under new manager, Erik Ten Hag. A horror show against Brentford in the Premier League was enough to put a lot of question marks on the actual status of the Spaniard in the misfiring United team.

Who Are They Interested In?

The hunt for a new goalkeeper at Old Trafford has already intensified after early links with Yann Sommer and Kevin Trapp. Both deals have already become complicated as per Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United have now reportedly opened talks with Newcastle United over a move for goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka. This new twist is coming after the initial target, Kevin Trapp reiterated his commitment to continue at Frankfurt on Instagram.

Dúbravka was pushed down to the number two spot after the arrival of Nick Pope at St. James’ Park. The Slovak goalkeeper was subsequently left out of the team’s Carabao Cup squad over speculations on his future. The player is now said to be quite keen and open to the move after being displaced in the team, as per Sky Sports

This is not the first time that Manchester United would be linked with a move for the Slovak goalkeeper. There were talks at the start of the summer of a potential loan swap for the goalkeeper involving Dean Henderson. The deal has since fallen off the table as Dean Henderson moved on loan to Nottingham Forest.

Martin Dúbravka made 26 first-team starts for Newcastle United last season and played all games in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons respectively.

It is left to see whether Erik Ten Hag sees the 33-year-old Martin Dúbravka as a potential replacement of David De Gea or just a backup option to put pressure on the Spanish goalkeeper.
