The remaining weeks of the summer are set to be frantic for Erik ten Hag and his side as they aim to bolster a number of positions across the first-team. They are looking ideally for “two midfielders, a second-choice goalkeeper, a right-back and a forward”, and should they land all of their ideal targets, they could be looking at a spend of up to £225.5 million.

United Need Midfield Additions

Ten Hag confirmed his intent to reinforce the squad after their disastrous start to the season; a 2-1 home loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on opening day and a 4-0 loss to Brentford left the team rock bottom of the Premier League in 20th place.

Casemiro has been named as the Red Devils latest target, with Scott McTominay and Fred starting the season in poor form in defensive midfield, specifically the Scotsman, who was lucky to escape a red card after a reckless challenge on Brighton’s Moises Caicedo. He would cost in the region of £67.5 million, according to reports.

The five-time Champions League winner would provide an instant impact in the Reds’ midfield. He is a proven, experienced and relentless character on the pitch – who is used to winning and tasting success.

Another element that may bode well for the club if the Brazilian agrees a deal, is that he would reunite with former Real Madrid teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane, a trio that were a part of one of the most successful teams across Europe.

As a more creative midfield option, United are still intent on bringing in Frenkie de Jong in a £71 million deal. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic provides a solid – and cheaper – alternative to the Dutchman.

Attacking Reinforcements Also on the Radar

Erik ten Hag has also looked to a Premier League rival to try and prise a star out of their grasp – Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic. The US Men’s National Team captain would reportedly only join on a loan move, but has looked lively and promising in his appearances for the London side.

Pulisic has struggled with injuries numerous times in his career, however he can be frightening for defenders to face up against when fully fit and in form.

Despite this, Pulisic is something of an alternative to Ajax man Antony, for whom the Red Devils reportedly want to come back with a £67.5 million offer.

Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was linked with a move to Manchester and rumoured with a possible return to England, however, despite his strong Arsenal connections as their former captain, he would likely prefer a move to Chelsea.

Defensive Options

Elsewhere, United are looking for a right-back and a backup goalkeeper.

On the right-hand side of defence, they have identified Thomas Meunier and Sergiño Dest as potential options. The former is thought to be a more likely option, with a fee of around £12.5 million being proposed for his signature.

Meanwhile, United recently upped their transfer budget for a number two between the sticks from £1 million to £7 million.
