Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea Will Return to Negotiations Table for ‘Unbelievable’ Player Who ‘Bid Fans Farewell’ at the Weekend

Wesley Fofana

Chelsea are set to restart negotiations with Leicester City for defender Wesley Fofana, confirms Fabrizio Romano. The Blues have already had a few bids rejected for the French youngster as the Foxes are unwilling to let him leave.

Todd Boehly Preparing New Proposal After Fofana’s ‘Farewell Gesture’

The London side are ready to return to the negotiation table for the 21-year-old centre-back after seeing their attempts constantly rejected by Leicester. Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is preparing a new proposal which he’s hoping will sway the Foxes into selling the defender.

Meanwhile, Fofana was pictured making a ‘farewell gesture’ to the fans of his club after their 4-2 loss to Arsenal on Saturday. He went over to the away section and looked emotional while lauding them for their support in the losing effort. The 21-year-old dreams of a move to Stamford Bridge, but ultimately the final decision lies with Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Important Week Ahead of Frenchman’s Future

Romano also claims that the upcoming week will be really important in deciding the future of the French centre-back, who is reportedly valued at around £80 million at Leicester. While they aren’t too eager to pay that big a fee for Fofana, Chelsea have not given up their transfer chase for him and are pushing on – with manager Thomas Tuchel eager to sign another defender.

Meanwhile, it’s also claimed by Romano that Paris Saint-Germain are great admirers of the France international but are yet to submit any kind of a proposal to the Foxes. Fofana would ideally want his future to be resolved at the earliest possible date, but he is hoping to get his move to Chelsea after agreeing personal terms with them as well.

The reason why the 21-year-old is finding such resistance from his club over selling him is because of how much Rodgers values him. The Northern Irish manager called him an “unbelievable player” earlier this year for churning out impressive performances despite fasting for the month of Ramadan.

Chelsea have already roped in Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli as a statement centre-back signing, while Marc Cucurella can also fit into that role. But Tuchel is seeking a natural, younger centre-back who can add pace and aggressiveness to his backline and help his side challenge for trophies this season.
