The Manchester Evening News chimed in on the move with very mixed feelings. Calling Rabiot an “egocentric French midfielder” with “more baggage than a Kardashian” who they claim was persona non grata at Paris Saint-Germain before his departure from the French side. However, they understand that the Red Devils’ current need to improve is far greater than potential dressing room problems.

With Erik ten Hag’s desired reunion with Frenkie de Jong currently reminding everyone of the Suez Canal blockage in 2021, his side has moved on to a new target. An embarrassing 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on the opening day of the Premier League has further exposed the need for improvements in the squad.
In steps the 27-year-old Frenchman, who is known to take games by the scruff of the neck and help control them from the midfield. While he won’t fix every issue at the club, he will improve an area of the pitch in need of a rebuild remarkably.
A Panic Move?
There is a question to be raised about whether this is a panic buy from a side that just suffered an embarrassing defeat, and that’s a valid question. What is clear, however, is that the squad needs strengthening and the Juventus man offers just that.
While this has certainly not been the start to life in Manchester that Ten Hag would have wanted, there is still time to turn things around in this transfer window.
