Chelsea Encouraged to Continue Pursuit as ‘Elite Player’ Reiterates Desire to Join Them After Seeing Multiple Bids Rejected

Wesley Fofana

Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana has told his club about his desire to join Chelsea amid their growing interest in signing him, reports CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs.

Thomas Tuchel’s side still want to sign a new centre-back even after signing Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.

Chelsea to Table New Bid for Wesley Fofana

Fofana Growing Frustrated to See Multiple Bids Rejected

The French defender has become a little bit frustrated to see Chelsea’s first two bids for him get rejected. He is personally pushing for the move, which has encouraged Tuchel’s side to keep making offers for him.

Chelsea are now expected to make another bid, which will be a straight cash offer with no player exchange option in it. The Blues are unwilling to pay the massive amount of £85 million which Leicester are demanding to let go of their prized centre-back.

They want to get a deal done for under £80 million – which would include add-ons in it too. Not just the number itself, but the structure of their transfer fee offer (including bonuses and add-ons) will be key in convincing the Foxes to sell.

Fofana to Respect Leicester City Contract Despite Wanting Stamford Bridge Move

The 21-year-old centre-back had signed a contract extension with Leicester earlier this year in March, where he was promised that the club would consider selling him in 2023 if a reasonable offer came along – Jacobs also states. The Foxes didn’t plan to let him go this year and are concerned about finding a proper replacement.

However, Fofana is staying respectful with the Premier League side despite being attracted to the possibility of joining Chelsea. Jacobs adds that he spoke with Brendan Rodgers last week and has promised to keep playing for the Foxes irrespective of the transfer drama that is taking place behind the scenes.

Right now, the Foxes are not considering the Frenchman to be up for sale. They have a tough transfer negotiations team that has already rejected multiple bids. But Chelsea will keep going for the 21-year-old’s signing, as they believe the player Rodgers called ‘Elite’ can further upgrade their defensive line in being the best in the league.
