Chelsea forward Timo Werner will complete his return to RB Leipzig later this week, reports Fabrizio Romano. The 25-year-old will be re-joining his ex-club on a permanent deal after failing to impress at Stamford Bridge over the last few seasons.

Werner Wanted New Experience After Failing to Get Regular Spot at Stamford Bridge
While there were talks of the Premier League side possible sending him out on loan, the Blues have decided to offload the German forward on a permanent deal after securing an agreement with the Bundesliga club. That’s because his chapter with Thomas Tuchel’s side is over.
Romano adds that there was no major falling out between Werner and the Chelsea manager, with the two always having mutual respect for each other. Instead, the 25-year-old pushed for the move as he ‘wanted a new experience’ and prioritize a return to the Bundesliga.

In fact, Werner has already agreed personal terms with Leipzig ahead of the move. The deal should be officially confirmed by both clubs later this week as the forward wants it done quickly so that he can start the German league season with the reigning DFB Pokal champions.
Chelsea’s Rollercoaster of a Summer Transfer Window So Far
Under the new ownership of the Todd Boehly consortium, Chelsea have been really proactive in the summer transfer market. They made it a priority to resolve the controversy around Romelu Lukaku early in the window, sending him on loan at Inter Milan as he desperately wanted to re-join the club.
They have also bolstered their squad with the signings of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli as well as Marc Cucurella from Brighton. They’ve also roped in Aston Villa teenager Carney Chukwuemeka as well as American goalkeeper Gabriel Slolina to bolster their future options too.

But now, the Blues seem focused on getting rid of another player who basically flopped since joining them in 2020. Werner made 89 appearances for the London side since joining them in 2020, scoring 23 goals and providing 21 assists.
But he developed a bad reputation for missing easy chances, struggling to maintain consistency or that ruthlessness to lead the line for the Blues – which is why they have no issues in letting go of him and his £272,000-a-week salary.
