Football League Experience

After joining Manchester United in 2001, aged just 16, Joe Rothwell never made a senior appearance for the club. He ended his 15-year stay with the Red Devils in 2016.

Despite that, has plenty of Football League experience since he left Old Trafford six years ago.

Prior to joining Oxford United on a permanent basis, the central midfielder spent time on loan at Blackpool and Barnsley in the second tier.

He then joined Oxford in League One and made 86 appearances for the U’s over a two-year spell. He was also part of the side that lost in the Football League Trophy final against Coventry City at Wembley Stadium.

From there, he moved to Ewood Park and has spent the last four seasons in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers.

During his time in Lancashire, Rothwell scored 11 times from 161 appearances, with ten of those goals coming in the second tier.

This season, the midfielder scored three times and added an impressive ten assists for Rovers as they ended their Championship campaign in eighth position.

Second Summer Signing

Newly promoted Bournemouth are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

Scott Parker has already brought in defender Ryan Fredericks on a two-year deal from West Ham United. The 29-year-old, who made 77 appearances for the Hammers after joining the London club in 2018, will add experience to the Cherries’ defence.

Parker will be delighted with the addition of Rothwell, having seen a reported bid of £3 million rejected by Rovers during the January transfer window.
