Manchester United’s Brazilian Transfer Target Won’t Come Cheap

Antony

Ajax won’t sell Manchester United‘s target, Antony, for any less than £68 million, according to Mike Verweij. United have a recent history of being underwhelming on the transfer market, something the newly appointed Erik ten Hag wants to change, as he’s aiming to sign several new players.

Antony to Manchester United?

An Ambitious New Manager

In his very first press conference with Manchester United, Erik ten Hag made it obvious just how ambitious he is, stating that the club is sure to be successful so long as everyone involved with it works hard and is one hundred per cent committed.

Adding reinforcements to the squad is also important. Ten Hag has eyed out many new players. Not all transfer stories ended in triumph, though. Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich has revealed Ten Hag unsuccessfully attempted to persuade him into making a move to Manchester.

However, the battle for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong is still alive and well, as is the hope of signing Antony. Having previously managed the Brazilian at Ajax, Ten Hag will be hoping to reunite with him at United.

Antony’s Career So Far

Antony is a hot prospect. The São Paulo product moved to Ajax from his childhood club in 2020, scoring his first Eredivisie goal in September of the same year. Two months later, he bagged his maiden UEFA Champions League goal in an away win against Midtjylland. Antony’s stint at Ajax has overall been a success.

He has also experienced international success, winning Olympic gold with Brazil in 2021. Following the Tokyo games, Antony’s prosperity persisted in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying. Here he scored his first and second goal for the senior national team. One against Venezuela, the other against Paraguay.
