AC Milan Interest in Argentine Wonderkid Grows

The AC Milan interest in River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez continues to grow. The Rossoneri have long been rumoured as a destination for Renato Sanches of Lille, but Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest. Fernandez is not only a serious target for Milan, but also not just a backup option should Sanches transfer elsewhere, according to Gianluca di Marzio. Milan are set to face competition from both Wolverhampton and Benfica.

AC Milan Interest in Enzo Fernandez Is Serious

A Great and Needed Talent

Fernandez is 21 years old, fitting right with Milan’s timeline of young stars such as Sandro Tonali, Rafael Leao, Fikayo Tomori, and others. So far, in 25 matches throughout Argentina and the Copa Libertadores in 2022, Fernandez has nine goals and six assists to his name. All this comes from his main positions as a central midfielder and defensive midfielder.

The player is more of a traditional “number eight” midfielder, similar to the likes of former Rossoneri legendary player (and short-time manager) Gennaro Gattuso. Of course, just mentioning that name will incite excitement in the hearts of Milan faithful. Fernandez is strong in possession, but also in winning the ball back defensively. The counter-press is key for River Plate, and Fernandez exemplifies this.

Milan, of course, are also in need of midfield help. Tonali blossomed this season and is set to be the future of the team. Ismael Bennacer remains a part of the squad and is a very solid option. Franck Kessie, however, is heading to Barcelona. For this reason, Milan need to add both depth and talent as Kessie has been a reliable starter for a number of years.
