Joan Laporta Discusses Frenkie De Jong Transfer Amidst Manchester United Interest

Frenkie de Jong transfer

There aren’t many clubs in the headlines more regularly at the moment than both Barcelona and Manchester United. The former could well be selling a number of players, meanwhile the latter are entering this new era – the Erik ten Hag era. Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta has had his say on a potential Frenkie de Jong transfer amidst interest from Manchester United, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Joan Laporta Outlines Frenkie de Jong Transfer With Manchester United Interested

Where Will the Dutchman be Playing his Football Next Year?

Frenkie de Jong’s time in Barcelona may not have been smooth sailing, but that doesn’t take away from just how good a player he is. He was at the heart of that Ajax side that missed out on a Champions League final thanks to late heart-breaking from Lucas Moura. The rumours are mounting continuously that he will reunite with the manager from that excellent team, Erik ten Hag.

Amidst Manchester United’s interest in one of his star players, Joan Laporta has expressed his personal desire to hang on to De Jong. “We have received proposals. But he has great quality, we think he should continue at Barça” is the official line from the Blaugrana president.

The Red Devils aren’t the only team pursuing de Jong though, with others from Europe’s elite keeping tabs upon him. Both of United’s closest rivals in Liverpool and Manchester City have been spoken about. As has, in this case, Paris Saint-Germain. Any player of this calibre that may well be available is always going to be linked to the French champions but it certainly doesn’t seem beyond the realms of possibility.

Who Else Could Leave Barcelona Amidst Manchester United Interest in Frenkie de Jong?

Another of the big names who have been flirting with an exit from the Nou Camp is of course Ousmane Dembele. The tricky winger was out in the cold 12 months ago due to injuries and supposed disciplinary issues. Since then though, under the stewardship of Xavi, he has come to the fore and led the team in assists. His contract is set to expire and it remains to be seen whether the bridges are completely burnt there or not.

Amidst Manchester United’s interest in de Jong, there has also been talk of them making a move for Dembele. Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have both had below-par years and the future seems to be up in the air when it comes to that right-wing. Sancho can operate on either side and so, him on the left and Dembele on the right is a scary proposition indeed.

As Laporta has emphasised, every player has a price and de Jong is certainly a lucrative player. Will he end up in the Premier League or remain in the Catalan region of Spain?
