Arsenal want striker Eddie Nketiah to remain at the club beyond the end of the season. According to Fabrizio Romano, Nketiah, whose contract runs out at the end of the season, has stepped up since the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Englishman has scored four goals in his last four games as the Gunners aim to qualify for the Champions League.

Arsenal Want Eddie Nketiah to Extend His Stay

Gunners Career so Far

Nketiah joined the Arsenal youth academy in 2015 and made his first-team debut in 2017. The 22-year-old also spent a season on loan at Leeds United, scoring three goals in 17 appearances.

The forward scored a brace against The Whites on Sunday to help Arsenal to a 2-1 victory. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was full of praise for Nketiah after the match, he said: “This boy doesn’t change, that’s why we absolutely adore him & he deserves what is happening to him.

“He’s still got a lot to do but now he has the right environment and he has the right personnel around him.

“Now he can be judged by what he does on the pitch and before he didn’t have that context.”

Nketiah Happy to be Back in First Team

It was heavily rumoured that Nketiah was keen to leave the Emirates at the end of the season due to playing time, but since his return to regular first-team football, Arteta wants him to stick around.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Nketiah expressed his happiness of being back in the side, he said: “It’s a great atmosphere throughout the whole season, it’s been excellent.

“It’s amazing to be involved. Any player just wants to be playing and get the opportunities. I’ve worked hard throughout the season to make sure that I was ready when I got my chance.

“[It is] credit to my teammates for helping me play and do well. I’m just happy to be on the team and helping.”

Nketiah will hope to keep his good form up and help Arsenal qualify for the Champions League. The Gunners have not qualified for the competition since 2017.
