Ross Barkley: Turkish Clubs Interested in Taking Chelsea Midfielder on Loan

Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley has reportedly been the subject of interest from clubs in Turkey, and could leave Stamford Bridge on loan.

However, Daily Telegraph football news correspondent Matt Law is reporting that the England international is not close to an agreement with any club, making the prospect of him staying at the European champions equally likely.

Leaving Stamford Bridge Likely to Offer Barkley More Game Time

Barkley joined Chelsea from Everton in January 2018, and has won the FA Cup as well as the Europa League during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Nevertheless, the 28-year-old has only featured sporadically in Chelsea’s starting eleven, and spent last season on loan at fellow Premier League side Aston Villa.

The midfielder has only made 12 appearances this season under Thomas Tuchel, and has become accustomed to spending time on the substitutes’ bench even when fully fit.

As such, a move to the Turkish Süper Lig would appear to promise Barkley more game time, especially given the depth of quality in the Chelsea midfield.

Barkley currently finds himself competing with the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, N’golo Kante and others for a place in central or holding midfield, the areas of the pitch in which he has operated most frequently as a Chelsea player.

Chelsea to Welcome Plymouth Argyle on FA Cup Weekend

Following the latest international break, Chelsea are back in action against League One side Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Thomas Tuchel will be aiming to take his side one step further than they managed last season in the competition. In 2020/21, the Blues made it to the final of English football’s oldest cup competition, where they suffered defeat at the hands of Leicester City at Wembley.

As European champions, Chelsea will also have the FIFA Club World Cup to contend with in February. Their involvement in the competition has caused their Premier League clash with Arsenal to be postponed.
