According to a report by Mike McGrath of the Telegraph, Frank Lampard’s Everton are interested in Real Madrid striker Luka Jović. Having strengthened his midfield options with the loan signing of Donny van de Beek from Manchester United, new Toffees boss Lampard wants a striker before the end of deadline day.

Everton have struggled for much of this season. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin missing for much of the current campaign, the Toffees have struggled to convert chances made and find themselves 16th in the Premier League table, four points off the relegation places.

Calvert-Lewin’s understudy Soloman Rondon has failed to impress since joining last summer, scoring just once in 15 games. With the England international still recovering from injury and needing match practice and training, a striker appears to be a priority for Lampard.

One advantage Lampard has over any other club looking at Jović is that former Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is now the boss at Madrid. Ancelotti also knows Frank Lampard well from their time together at Chelsea.

Jović and Everton Could Benefit Each Other

It is of little secret that Everton have struggled in attacking areas this season as is Jović’s struggles at Madrid. Jović was prolific in Germany before a €60 million move to La Liga. The former Red Star Belgrade and Benfica forward scored 36 goals in two seasons at Eintracht Frankfurt. 27 of those coming in his second season before his big-money move to Spain.

Struggling for game time and goals, Jović was loaned back to Frankfurt for a short-term loan in January 2021. It now appears that Madrid want to do the same with a different destination. Since his return to Spain last summer the Serbian international has once again failed to find his scoring form. A move to Merseyside could be what he and Everton need right now.
