Tottenham All but Out of Adama Traore Race; La Liga Giants in Pole Position

Adama Traore

For most of the January transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur looked in pole position to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore. Unable to make the necessary steps to seal a deal, however, the London club are now all but out of the race. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, it is now Barcelona who are ready to complete a deal.

The La Liga giants have reportedly offered to take Traore on an initial loan deal, with a €35 million loan option.

Traore to Return Home?

If you cast your minds back to the very start of Adama Traore’s career, it was Barcelona and the famous La Masia academy where it all began. And so it would seem fitting that years later, it is Barcelona where the next step begins.

A club in the middle of a rebuild, Traore can spearhead Barcelona’s potential return to the top in the coming years. Ferran Torres has already made the move this month, and has since opened his goals tally against Athletic Club. Add Traore to that Barcelona side, and Xavi has got himself an attack full of entertainment.

Of course, the Wolves winger isn’t the conventional Barcelona player. But conventional goes out of the window when one of the biggest clubs in football history sits outside of Spain’s top four. Traore can add something different; something much-needed. That raw, powerhouse ability as somewhat of a chaos player could ironically begin to reverse the inelegant scenes we so often see at the Nou Camp nowadays.

Should the deal go through, the Catalan giants will have themselves a game changing player. From a Wolves perspective, too, the deal is worthwhile. Traore’s contract is up this summer, and it looked increasingly likely that he would leave for free. Now, however, those at Molineux can welcome a hefty fee.
