The relationship between Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Arsenal has taken another blow as the striker has been left out of the Gunners’ squad for their mid-season trip to Dubai as the club looks to force a move before the transfer window ends.

High Hopes

Aubameyang came to Arsenal with all the momentum in the world. The Gabon international striker came to Arsenal off the back of successful stints with Saint-Etienne and Borussia Dortmund. During his time in Germany, he scored a sensational 98 goals in 144 games on top of an impressive 35 goals in 73 games during his time in France.

Arsenal signed the striker in January 2018 for a then-record fee of £56 million and hit the ground running with ten goals in thirteen league games before the season ended. In his first full season with Arsenal, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang won the Premier League golden boot with 22 goals to his name. It seemed like Arsenal had found their top marksman

Troubles Mounting

In March 2021, Aubameyang was left out of the Arsenal squad due to a disciplinary issue and missed a key North London Derby in the process.  That wasn’t the last time that the club captain was dropped to a disciplinary issue and he quickly became a thorn in the side of manager Mikel Arteta, instead of the leader he once was. These issues resulted in Aubameyang being stripped of the captaincy in December 2021.

With the relationship between the two sides deteriorating, this latest move by Arsenal should be a further sign that they want the striker to leave sooner rather than later. It will be difficult to replace his goalscoring abilities, however, as the striker has scored 68 goals in 128 games with Arsenal, becoming the sixth-fastest player to reach 50 Premier League goals in the process. This story will no doubt be one to keep an eye on as the window winds down.
