Former Chelsea Player Still Holding Out for Barcelona Switch

Former Chelsea player

Former Chelsea player Oscar is reportedly still hopeful of securing a move to Barcelona before the end of the January transfer window. Fabrizio Romano tweeted comments from Oscar that came from an interview with Brazilian media outlet TNT on January 21st.

Possibility That Former Chelsea Player Could Still Seal Barcelona Switch

Discussions Held

Brazilian attacking midfielder Oscar left the Premier League in 2017 as he departed Chelsea for China but is now potentially on the verge of a sensational return to European football with La Liga giants Barcelona after discussions were held between the players’ representatives and Barcelona. He joined Shanghai Port at a time when football in China was hitting a boom period but is now ready to make his return to a more competitive environment.

What Was Said

TNT Sports asked Oscar about the links with Barcelona and he was not shy in explaining the situation;

“Barcelona reached out to my agent to know about this possibility, they knew football in China will stop until March. So maybe, but Barca is facing a difficult time now. I was told about this interest, I guess they’re still trying to figure something out. Barca has this issue about registering new signings and they’d still need to sort talks with my club.”

Oscar acknowledged the fact that due to the precarious financial position at Barcelona that saw club legend Lionel Messi depart for Paris Saint Germain, any deal may well prove difficult to get over the line;

“They would want for me to join until the end of the season. They’re still talking, it’s ongoing, but there’s this problem with the new signings – I guess Dani Alves has faced some.”

Oscar even stated that he would be willing to take a salary cut if the situation required him to do so;

“I’m aware I’d maybe need to forego something to make it happen.”
